I was sure of my tech skills when I started college because I used my phone and laptop all the time.
Soon, when I was a first-year, I would learn about something called “Davidson Domains.” What is an area? Who is subdomain?
Answer: They are personalised websites paid for by Davidson College and housed by Reclaim Hosting.
I quickly found out that I wasn’t as tech-savvy or able to use computers as I had thought.
You can see my subdomain projects for Digital Art and a year-long Humanities course that I took my first year at Davidson.
I knew how to get around the subdomain for the Humanities school, post weekly responses to readings, look at the schedule, and other things.
The Humanities section was different from Moodle and other CMS (Course Management Systems) because it stood out.
The way it was made was like the course. It was well planned. At hum.davidson.edu, I could find everything I needed.
But it was…frustrating when it came time to make my own galleries that were well-organised and looked good.
As an art major, I had a plan for each showcase, of course. But getting that picture from my mind to the screen wasn’t nearly as easy as drawing it in my mind.
What you see here is a wireframe, which is a great first step in the process of creating a website.
I picked a theme, added pages, and copied and pasted writing into posts in WordPress. Then I uploaded my work and showed it online.
